Jen Wening is an upmarket literary fiction author and crossword constructor. She is currently working on her next project, a funny, smart and at times heartbreaking novel taking place at an urban record label in the 2000’s.

Jen is based in New York City and is a graduate of Columbia University’s M.F.A. program. She is is originally from SuperFund, New Jersey and she still is captivated by organizational and environmental filth.

More than a name in a crossword puzzle. And although he’s probably most famous for the TWA terminal, it’s the Bell Labs building in Holmdel, NJ that I love.

It took three years to built, and it was Eero’s swan song. It was his crowning achievement, a mile long, with a 70 foot high cross-shaped atrium, where over 5,600 researchers worked, including my father. The cellphone, the transistor, microwave fiber optics, and most importantly, my father invented the magnetic swipe while at Bell Labs.

I had a summer internship at Bell Labs. I made a ton of money and my two tasks were writing a department newsletter and rewinding magnetic tapes in a freezing cold room. The writing and tons of money parts were the best.
